5 ways to make wedding stationery and signage sustainable and beautiful.

A wedding is a beautiful and special occasion that marks the beginning of a new chapter in a couple's life. It's a day that is filled with love, joy, and celebration. However, weddings can also be a significant source of waste and environmental impact. From food waste to single-use decor, there are many ways in which a wedding can negatively impact the planet.

One area that couples can focus on to reduce their wedding's environmental impact is their stationery and signage. In this blog post, I will show you some ways to create sustainable wedding stationery and signage that will be both beautiful and eco-friendly.

1. Choose recycled and eco-friendly materials

When it comes to wedding stationery, there are many options available that use recycled materials. From recycled paper to seed paper, there are a variety of options that can help reduce waste and minimise the environmental impact of your wedding. For example, you can use seeded paper for your invitations, which can be planted after the wedding and will grow into wildflowers or herbs.

This stunning invitation suite was printed on 100% recycled paper with a an RSVP requesting an email response, reducing the carbon footprint. It's always best to request sustainably produced or recycled paper, while avoiding papers with synthetic coatings, making them non-recyclable.

2. Opt for Recyclable or Reusable Signage

Wedding signage is a great way to direct guests and add a personal touch to your wedding decor. Instead of using materials that can't be used again or recycled such as foam board, which many printers will use, opt for reusable signage that can be used for future events. For example, you can use a chalkboard or a wooden sign that can be repurposed after the wedding.

My favourite signage material to work with is mirrors. I have a beautiful range of mirrors which have all been sourced secondhand to avoid adding extra waste into the world. I hire these out as part of my calligraphy signage service so that they can be put to use good use again and again.

3. Choose Eco-Friendly Finishes and inks

When selecting the finishing touches and inks for your wedding stationery, choose eco-friendly options that don't contain synthetic materials and harmful chemicals.

Soy-based inks are a great option because they are made from natural, renewable resources and are biodegradable. All of the inks I use for handwritten place cards are vegan and eco-friendly.

Choose jute bows or a recycled paper belly band rather than synthetic ribbon. Metal decorative paper clips give a really stylish finish to a modern invitation suite too.

4. Reduce Packaging Waste

When ordering your wedding stationery, consider ordering everything together at the same time to reduce packaging waste. This not only saves you money but also reduces the amount of packaging material that is required to ship your items. You can also ask your stationery supplier to use minimal and eco-friendly packaging.

I package your wedding stationery using biodegradable and recyclable materials. Any occasional non-recyclable packaging will have been reused from any parcels I receive. I always make it my aim to keep waste to a minimum while keeping your beautiful stationery safe in transit.

5. Don't excessively over-order on the stationery

Although you may have some changes in guests and might need a few more invitations 'just in case', don't go over the top. It's would be a shame to have lots and lots of extras going to waste. So think carefully about your guest list as well as the number of households when ordering.

If you do have any leftover invitations, think about how you reuse them. Could you turn them into cards or use them for future crafting projects? You'll almost certainly want to keep one full suite as a souvenir to keep in a box or a picture frame.
